Escape to Elgin!

The unique cool climate of the Elgin valley in the natural amphitheater formed by the Kogelberg and Hottentots Holland mountains is the perfect destination to escape from the chaos. It has been quite a year, hasn't it? The gracious four-star Elgin Vintners Country house offers warm hospitality in an unspoiled environment. Complete with a swimming pool and tennis court. If that's not reason enough to head on a little adventure - Elgin Vintners just launched a brand new wine tasting room!

One of my favourites - Ridgelands Sandstone

“Our new tasting room offers a warm welcome and expert guidance from our wine ambassadors, adding another layer to the tasting experience by enjoying the wines in the natural surroundings where they are produced, with the people who make them, and experiencing the laid-back hospitality of our region,” Elgin Vintners winemaker and business manager - Marinda Kruger-Claassen.

Elegant, complex wines with finesse, the wines of Elgin Vintners have a loyal

following of devoted fans, and attract accolades from wine critics and in local and international competitions.

The Elgin Vintners Tasting Room offers a menu of tasting options across the Elgin Vintners range of white and red wines, the classy Belle Amie Merlot Rosé as well as the Ridgelands range of small-batch site-specific wines. P.s. The Ridgelands Sandstone 2019 was my absolute favourite click here for my tasting notes.

The wine-and-cheese pairing is presented with artisan cheeses by Kasselshoop of Stilbaai, and the tasting room offers a menu of cheese and snack platters, light meals of quiches and salads and a selection of pizzas baked in the wood-fired oven.

The pizza is delicious!

Another exciting new venture for Elgin Vintners is the launch of their canned wine range - Fynbos Lite. The design captures the natural beauty of the region with striking illustrations of abundant wildflowers and the malachite sunbird (green sugarbird) found in the Kogelberg area.

Introducing the Fynbos Lite range!

Admittedly, I was skeptical when the global canned wine trend first took off but canned wines are remarkably convenient especially for the adventurers at heart! Not only is it light and compact, but it is also easy to serve - no glass or corkscrew needed. The cans come with environmental benefits too – they are infinitely recyclable, have a lighter carbon footprint than glass and are easily crushed.

Isn't it just the prettiest?

“Fans of Elgin Vintners wines will find the same quality, cool-climate character, elegance and fruit purity that they love in our wines, now in a convenient, eco-friendly package with the added bonus of being lower in alcohol, which suits healthier, outdoor lifestyles,” Marinda Kruger-Claassen said.

More about the Fynbos Lite wines:

  • Elgin Vintners Fynbos Lite Premium White 2020 is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Semillon and barrel-fermented Chardonnay aged on the lees for six months.

  • Elgin Vintners Fynbos Lite Premium Red 2020 blends Merlot and Shiraz, whole-bunch fermented and aged for six months after blending and malolactic fermentation.

The Fynbos Lite wines undergo alcohol reduction - both the red and white blend is 8.5% ABV.

So, a beautiful country house in a pristine natural environment, a new tasting room showcasing award-winning wines as well as a brand new range of premium canned wines, and let's not forget the delicious pizzas! It really is the perfect escape.
