KWV unveils Classic Collection Cape Blend

For decades, KWV has perfected the art of wine blending in its cellars, a tradition attributed to the many visionary winemakers who have passed down their knowledge and passion. Among these luminaries is Professor Izak Perold, revered as the ‘Father of Pinotage’, whose groundbreaking work in cloning Cinsault and Pinot Noir gave birth to Pinotage, South Africa’s unique grape variety. This spirit of innovation continues to inspire the winemaking team at KWV and is evident in the vibrant taste of the Classic Collection Cape Blend.

It is also a wine which reflects KWV’s unwavering commitment to quality. KWV’s Chief Winemaker, Justin Corrans adds:

“Cape Blends from KWV’s cellars have consistently been recognised as leading examples of this category. This commitment to excellence is entrenched in the newly released Classic Collection Cape Blend, which is crafted with the same meticulous attention to detail as its award-winning peers.”

In crafting this wine, the winemaking team was inspired by the rainbow nation’s love for cultural flavours and shared moments. Driven by the belief that some things are better when blended together, this proudly South African red wine celebrates combinations loved by South Africans. Imagine sunsets and safaris, braais and sports, pap and wors — experiences that are the perfect opportunities for opening the Classic Collection Cape Blend. Wine enthusiasts are invited to elevate their classic South African moments with each sip of the Classic Collection Cape Blend.

It reveals a harmonious blend that evokes aromas of sun-ripened berries, blackcurrant, and plum, enhanced by a hint of cherry. Subtle notes of oak and spices add depth and intrigue, making this wine a true reflection of South Africa’s terroir and winemaking excellence. With its bold flavours and robust structure, this wine pairs wonderfully with grilled meats such as steak or lamb chops, as well as slow-cooked braised dishes like beef short ribs or coq au vin, which complement the wine's fruit-forward character.

Below is a recommended pairing recipe. I tried it and it was sensational!
